what

A wide variety of locally produced fine food and drink are on offer at our Westmorland event.

Not only that, but there are demonstrations from chefs, fascinating local food history covering everything from damsons to rum, and children's entertainment. We are also running a competition to find the best sticky toffee pudding in the North West- read on to find out more.

What's happening

We are pleased to announce that our Cumbria Young Chef of the Year will be appearing in our demonstration kitchen during the festival.

M lambert Michael Lambert is a chef at the prestigious Langdale Hotel and will be joined by a colleague to show the skills which won him the award.

We shall also be welcoming local chef Nick Martin, a regular at the Lucy Cooks school of cooking and owner of Dinner at Nick’s- a service where Nick and his team will whip up a dinner party in your own home. Nick is passionate about local food and will be treating us to the best the area has to offer.

At this year’s festival, we are pleased that there will be a number of exhibitors providing a flavour of local food history.
The Rum Story from Whitehaven will be revealing the link between Cumbria and ‘the dark spirit’ - they will also be cooking up some treats with rum in the demonstration area. The Damson Association will be on hand to tell people about this very Cumbrian fruit and its myriad of uses. On Saturday representatives from Little Salkeld Watermill will give a presentation on the history of the oldest watermill still working in Cumbria. Cream of Cumbria will be attending on the 15th to demonstrate their butter churning.

On Sunday ‘Quick Sketcheroonist’ Evsie will be on site offering portraits of sitters. For a small cost he will create a humorous portrait based on your hobby, job or even your dreams.

Budding pudding chefs can enter the competition to find Cumbria’s finest sticky toffee pudding by bringing their puddings along on Saturday 14th before 2pm. Everyone entering the competition will be rewarded with free admission to the festival.

A panel of experts has been selected to taste the puddings to determine which is the very best in the country – the judges include; chef and professional pudding maker, Paul Taylor; regional food champion Peter Papprill (the Cheese Detective); and local celebrity chef Nick Martin.

As well as receiving recognition for becoming the “Sticky Toffee Pudding Champion of Cumbria”, the winner will automatically become an nwfinefood food lover member – so don’t delay- get cooking!
